Turg's 3-club 2-man
The Tour Throws a Curveball
Photo provided by the commish to Chi Chi Inc. from a previous life. Seriously, I took this photo.
Course : Chi Chi Rodriguez
Nov 15th
Course Stats: Par 69, 5313 Yards (Blue Tees)
What Chi Chi’s lacks in length it compensates with strategy. Many holes may appear short and gettable from afar, but upon further inspection reveal a cleverly designed approach area and green that offer seasoned golfers a fair challenge. What 3 clubs will you use to make your way through these vaunted links?
Format
Team Quota (Modifed Stableford)
"It's not about who is the best player; it's about which player has their best day"
This event is our first foray into the unknown. How will players respond to such a unique format? How will they strategize here? The scoring is quoata, or modified stableford for my dimpleheads. Here’s how it works.
- Each player will be given a quota that is determined by each players handicap and verified by the committee. Any adjustments to be made for fair play will be made. The higher the quota, the better
- Each player begins the round NEGATIVE their quota. If I’m a 25, that means I begin the round at -25
- The goal is to have the most points in relation to your quota
- Eagle = 8 points, Birdie = 4 points, Par = 2 points, Bogey = 1 point
- The points in relation to quota carry over to each round, and the winner is the player with the most points in relation to their quota
However, the wrinkle is the team component here. Instead of seeing where you rank individually, you’re quota will be combined with your playing partner to create a team quota. For example, if player A has a quota of 10 and Player B has a quota of 20, their team quota is now 30. If player A scores 12 points and Player B scores 22 points, their team quota will be +4.
Additionally, once players have achieved double bogey or worse, they are encouraged to pick up their ball for pace of play.
How Quotas Are Established
- Each player will provide the BSGA with their handicap, or if they have an established average quota from tournament play
- Your quota will be your handicap – 36, then an additional 10% is taken off
Example
10 handicap = 26 quota.
10% reduction = 23.4
ALWAYS ROUND DOWN
Quota = 23
The commissioner reserves the right to modify outlandish handicaps to protect the field and the integrity of The Tour.
BSGA Rules
The standard USGA rules will be in effect, with a few modifications for player enjoyment. Here are the key distinctions
1) OB doesn’t exist and it’s bullshit. If you go OB and you are in someone’s backyard you treat it like a red stake, with the exception that you can not play it out of the “hazard”. You may take a lateral drop, or drop anywhere along the line the extends from the pin and where you entered the hazard, no closer to the pin.
2) ZERO LIFT CLEAN AND PLACE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
3) There are ZERO gimmes allowed for points. It doesn’t matter if it’s 1 inch away, the ball must enter the cup for a point to be rewarded. Gimmes start at 6 inches, then a foot, then 3 feet, then all of a sudden we got dudes chopping off their dicks and putting on dresses. It’s a slippery slope I’m not willing to entertain.
Live Scoring
