Camaraderie and Competition
BSGA Commissioner Sawyer “The Bonesaw” Wilson and Zach Gordon embrace over the successful planning of another major.
About
The Ponte Vedra Classic (Circa 2023) was established to identify the best stroke player on tour. The handicaps will be adjusted so all players will stroke off the best leading horse, and from there players will stroke off other players as well. The volume of dudes stroking off dudes provides the excitement, drama, and best finish the tour offers, with arguably the best walk in golf. BSGA commissioner and media tycoon will be standing by the final hole to get pictures of players smiling as they finish; the ultimate money shot.
The Field
TBD
Format: Individual Play
The format for this event is STROKE play, adjusted for handicaps. Each player enters the weekend with a total strokes given off of Alex. We will round up because as of now that benefits me but if that changes so will this rule. At the end of it we add up the strokes, adjust for handicap, and crown a champion. There is a TRIPLE MAX for this event. If you have a triple pick up and move on.
Stroll Through The Yards (above)
The Yards is a 9-hole, par 35 3,500 yard course that is a breathe of fresh air for the Ponte Vedra golf community. The grounds, nestled inside of TPC Sawgrass, offer a laidback and approachable golf experience that still offers the challenge and thrill high level players enjoy. Cam Smith has been known to frequent the venue.
Example
Team 1: Sawyer (-3) & Gordon (-15)
Team 2: Elmore (-15) & Crist (-8)
This means over the course of the 45 holes, Sawyer gets 7 strokes off AG, Gordon gets 38, Elmore gets 38, and Crist gets 20.
For the team competition, the players scores are simply combined, strokes are applied, and the net winner is declared.
The Yards
The Yards
Par 35, 3190 yards
Players begin their vaunted journey fir the beige QZ at the renowned Yards Course, in TPC Sawgrass. Players will perform the 9 hole loop from the tippy tip tippers here, however it only stretches to 3200 so players will not be pushed here. I haven’t played here myself (Commissioner), however I’ve heard it’s the bees knees and Cam Smith is a frequent guest. He has been contacted for a guest appearance and eagerly await his reply.
Stillwater Golf And Country Club
The Yards
Par 72, 6314 Yards (Blue Tees)
PLAYERS BEWARE! Do not be fooled by the advertised numbers on the scorecard. Stillwater may not be tough in brute strength, but visceral in its bite. It’s a marsh style course with windy conditions typically and little forgiveness throughout. Force carries abound as players navigate their way through the Stills and the Water.
The Ponte Vedra Inn & Club (Ocean Course)
Par 71, 5906 yards (White Tees)
Sunday morning will have the look and feel of a true major. Players tee off directly in front of a beautiful veranda that is often crowded with PVI guests. The opening 5 holes will certainly perplex those that have yet to play it, before turning back and heading directly into the prevailing wind. The closing 4 holes will be a fun series to watch in the final group. Short dog leg left, iconic volcano par 3, long uphill trek on a quirky par 4 before descending to water level on the downhill 18th.
